Historical Context
Edward James Corbett was born in Nainital on 25 July 1875. Though famously called upon by the government to hunt down man-eating tigers and leopards in the Kumaon region, he became a passionate advocate for wildlife conservation. He played an instrumental role in establishing India’s first national park, which was later renamed the Jim Corbett National Park in his honor. The stamp release also aligned heavily with India’s focus on the Project Tiger initiative launched in the 1970s.
