In 1973, India’s Department of Posts released a commemorative series of four stamps celebrating the heritage of Indian Miniature Paintings. Issued on May 5, 1973, the set features detailed artwork from various traditional schools.
Stamp Series Details
The series consists of four denominations, each depicting a different masterpiece:
- 20p – Radha (Kishangarh School): Depicts Radha, attributed to the artist Nihal Chand (c. 1778 A.D.).
- 50p – Kathak Dance Duet: Showcases a dance performance from a traditional miniature.
- 1r – Dhola & Maru: Illustrates the legendary lovers on a camel, a popular theme in Rajasthani art.
- 2r – Elephant Being Tamed: Features a prince taming a chained elephant
