Visual Description and Symbolism
The stamp design visually replicates the physical details of the medal, which was originally created by Swiss-Indian designer Savitri Khanolkar
  • The Medal: The centre of the stamp displays the circular bronze medal. At the exact centre of the medal sits the National Emblem of India (the Ashoka Lions Capital) on a raised background.
  • The Vajras: Surrounding the central emblem are four replicas of Indra’s Vajra (thunderbolt), flanked by swords. This design takes inspiration from the Vedic sage Dadhichi, who sacrificed his body so the gods could forge a supreme weapon from his bones to destroy evil.
  • The Ribbon: The top of the stamp depicts the solid purple ribbon from which the actual medal is suspended.
